We’ve all been there … you’re standing in a wine shop looking for a Merlot and all you can see are rows upon rows of place names.

Reading wine labels can be difficult, especially on European wines where prestige comes from placing your village on the bottle. That’s why you’ll find far more about where the wine comes from than what it’s actually made of on a label.

But once you know a few tips and tricks it becomes much easier to understand. Just take a look at our guide to understanding wine labels.
