Is there anything more exciting than pouring yourself something you’ve never tried, and discovering you love it? It happens all the time with Riesling. One sip of its Sauvignon-rivalling freshness, racy lime and glorious mineral tang … And customers never look back.

We love a glass of Riesling here at Laithwaites HQ, especially over the festive season. It’s the electrifying white that the Germans do best. And if goose is on your menu this Christmas, then why not swap the Pinot Noir for a dry Riesling.

Prepare for some eureka moments this Christmas with these top-value Rieslings.

F.W. NALBACH SONNENSCHEIN RIESLING 2020

Mosel Qualitätswein

An elegant, off-dry Riesling that tastes impeccably modern, fresh, and vibrant. It’s from the renowned Richter family and one of their finest Mosel vineyards. Brilliant bright apple, lemon, floral and slate notes – a beautifully balanced white. A delight solo or with light dishes.

THE BOAR RIESLING 2020

Rheingau Qualitätswein

The Boar comes from the Leitz family’s Rheingau estate where wild boar are partial to the odd bunch of juicy Riesling. No wonder. This is absolutely bursting with lemon and lime aromas. And what a mouthful of zesty citrus fruit flavours.

THE BOAR NO MORE (ZERO ALCOHOL) 2020

Gutswein

Looking for a delicious tasting crisp, dry white with zero alcohol? Here’s a smasher from one of Germany’s finest modern producers, Weingut Leitz. Retaining all the juicy citrus and ripe apple fruit of classic Riesling, yet with no alcohol. On mostly south-facing slopes, the grapes ripen to perfection, and are much loved by the wild boar that roam there. Johannes does his best to keep them at bay. You won’t feel as though you’re missing out with this zero alcohol white.

REICHSRAT VON BUHL RIESLING NR. 1 2020

Pfalz Qualitätswein

With over 170 years’ experience, Von Buhl is one of Germany’s finest estates, and attracts high praise from critics every year. Their Riesling Nr 1 stands out with zesty lime, ripe peach and mineral freshness. A terrific, elegant dry white. This dry white is thoroughly appetising on its own or with gentle dishes such as poached salmon.

GABEL RIESLING GUTSWEIN 2019

Pfalz Qualitätswein

The Pfalz has a long tradition of making dry wine and Riesling Gutswein from Gabel is a classic. It’s from the Fork family’s small, 350-year-old estate, wedded to brilliant, modern wines. From high vineyards, this is crisp, dry, lime-zipped Riesling. Pairs perfectly with white meats and fish.
