Windsor

Last week I was invited to a bit of a do at Windsor. In the Great Park. Bit nervous… but glasses of fizz and nibbles under a glorious sky on Smith’s Lawn helped, with not a polo player in sight. The reason I was invited was that very fizz. from our vineyard is just a short walk away. The event was for tenants of The Crown Estate. To celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Smith’s Lawn, Windsor Great Park

I was chatting to the couple who run the estate’s village shop and a guy who watches over their wild deer. Then I was astonished to find myself sitting at dinner next to The Countess of Wessex. Just like that. It was a wonderful evening. Everyone was so relaxed. But then they all know each other. It’s like a big village is the Great Park. We were drinking Windsor Great Park Sparkling 2016 in magnums. Pretty fine. They always buy magnums at the Castle. Very wise. Note to self. Bottle more magnums.
